In honor of our love for wildlife and our feathered friends, this Holiday we are thrilled to be part of the GOOD KARMA SALE inspired by The Wild Unknown's desire to redefine the holiday shopping experience. We are excited to support a local non-profit charity and to make the holidays meaningful again!
From Nov 27th - 30th we will be donating 10% of sales to the Kestrel Land Trust. The Land Trust is near and dear to us because of their passionate dedication to conserving the land that sustains the quality of life and ecological integrity of the Pioneer Valley for over 40 years. We are excited to support such a wonderful organization that works so hard to protect forests, farms, and riverways, while nurturing an enduring love of the land.
-- Eliza and her Kestrel named "Little Wing"
We are often asked by our wonderful customers in our store about the story behind the KESTREL name ...
"Growing up in Western Massachusetts, I was surrounded by all sorts of birds of prey as my beloved late stepfather was an avid falconer. While my friends had dogs, cats and bunnies, we had red-tailed hawks, peregrine falcons, various owls and a kestrel at home. I especially bonded to our little kestrel named Little Wing. She was small, light enough for me to hold and fly, and far less intimidating than the others. I cherish the memories of him teaching me about birds of prey and us flying Little Wing together in the fields of Umass. When deciding on a name, it was important to come up with something that reflected the natural aesthetic of the shop, something that evoked a little intrigue or mystery (kestrels are incredible and not everyone knows of them!) and something that had a special personal meaning to me" -- Eliza ☆ interviewed in Kinfolk Magazine
